Dogs that have spinal cord injuries may soon be able to test out a medication that may help their injuries become better. Currently, two schools are testing out some medications and solutions that seem to work well for mice and in the future they will have it kink free in hopes to be able to help dogs who are suffering from spinal cord injuries.
The first dogs that will be testing out the treatment options will be short leg dogs like the dachshunds and beagles because they are the breeds who most commonly have to deal with spinal cord injuries. It has been proven that approximately 120 dogs develop this condition a year and now with their owner’s consents they have a chance of having their normal lives back. It has not been confirmed whether or not this will work but everyone has their finger crosses hoping that it does.
The dog you see in the picture is a dog in a medical device which is supposed to make sure that the dog is able to walk again. However, this only works if the damage that has occurred is not too extensive.
I am a dog lover and I feel that it is absolutely amazing that there are people out there who want to make sure that dogs are healthy and have the same treatment options that humans do. I have never experienced having a dog that suffered from these conditions but I can imagine it would be hard for someone to experience seeing their best pal in pain every day.
